hello all I seem to be having an issue with my sony 55wf655, I was watching TV last week and I heard a loud POP and the set turned off. I turned the TV back on and the lamp light came on so I ordered a new bulb and replaced that. Now when I go to turn on the TV the following happens.
The power LED blinks green like normal startup. I hear a sound three times, I assume this is the ballast trying to light the lamp. after about 45 seconds the power LED turns red and the lamp light blinks red continously.
Any help diagnosing this issue will be greatly appreciated.
thanks
josh

hi there, it seems that the issue is likely the ballast and for better result would recommend to check this with a service technician.

Hello LaGrew,
Although the balast might be the problem the fact that the lamp actually blew up could be from over heating. Make sure that the cooling fans are operational and are clean. Also recheck that the lamp assembly is properly seated and the cover is not warped from over heating.

i did check the fans seem to be working but are dirty, i'll clean them. My question now is why isn't the tv turning on at all? did the lamp exploding causing combined with the heat issue cause another problem? the cover seems to not be warped at least not in my opinion.

Hello, I may have the same problem. My TV appears to have been dropped during my move from San Diego. The TV worked prior to the move, but now the screen will not come on, and the lamp indicator flashes after the power has been on for 1 minute. I ordered a replacement bulb, but it is still doing the same thing. I inspected the original bulb visually, and it appears that the filament is broken, however the new bulb doesn't work. Is it possible the ballast was also damaged by being dropped? I have a Sony KDF 55WF655. The replacement bulb is listed as XL 2200U. Also, how can I be certain the bulb is the right one. One Sony rep told me XL 2100, which is listed for another model. Please assist if you can. I would hate to get rid of the TV if it is a relatively easy fix, as it has a nice picture when working.

LaGrew,
I would run the self diagnostic test which can be seen in the Frequently Asked question section. Also, are there any other visible issue that you see around the lamp area. I think this model is prone to warp door for the lamp door due to the heat. Could be the lamp driver but not entirely sure on that. I would check the lamp area.
thundar69,
The lamp bulb is

Thanks Claudio! I will try that before I scrap the TV. Is that part difficult to replace/troubleshoot? I just don't want to keep replacing things if I can test the driver or ballast myself. Although I know the Ballast is dangerous to test due to voltage. Can I use a volt meter on the bulb receptacle....that is presumably relatively low wattage...just to see if I am getting power there?
Thanks for any more assistance you can provide
Steve

Hi thunder69,
Let me know what error codes come up. There are several members who have changed the lamp driver without any problems. Not sure about the Ballast. Does the new lamp look ok? Sometimes new lamp get damaged during shipping.
