Hi,
I purchased an 34XBR910 off CL a few months ago. It's been working fine up till now. The problem is the remote.
A few days ago, the TV AND cable remote became intermittent, starting with volume control (I think). All TV remote functions are now inop. We changed batteries in both remotes, no help.
Is this a common problem? I haven't had much luck finding any info....
Thanks,
Bob

Have you tried a universal remote to see if it works with that remote. Checking to see if it's the remote or the connection between the remote and TV.

Hi,
Yes, we tried the Comcast remote to change the volume. It's also inop. We've always been able to use either for volume control. It controls the cable box functions as advertized, just no volume.
Thanks,
Bob

The Comcast remote sends signals to your TV. Your TV isn't responding to the signals. That suggests a problem with the circuit board that contains the IR receiver at the front of the TV. The usual problem is that fluid used to clean the face of the picture tube seeps down into the circuit board, affecting operation. For the KV-34XBR910, the IR sensor is located on the HCX board. Do the VOL + and VOL - buttons on the front of the set work? If so, I would replace the HCX board. The KV-34XBR910 HCX board part number is A-1302-489-A and it may be purchased for $33.42 at https://servicesales.sel.sony.com/ecom/accessories/web/index.jsp. Use the Part Number search to locate the part.

Jehill,
I can't thank you enough for your expert assistance. I purchased that part and installed it today. It works as advertised! I feel confident that it's not just in one of it's "ON" days, and is truly fixed.
That's how my wife and I rated the evening....when we settled in for the evening of tube watching, and the remote worked, it was a GOOD night!
It was an easy replacement, once I realized the whole tray slides aft! I was almost in the process of removing the front bezel..That would have been ugly....
Anyway, thanks again for your invaluable assistance. The membership here is worth every single cent, plus...

Well,
It appears that my euphoria was premature and short lived...The remote is again intermittent.
It works fine, all functions, occasionally. The buttons on the front panel always work....
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Bob

Perhaps there is a poor connection to the board?

It's possible....One thing I forgot to add. The remote almost always works the first time to turn it on. After that, not so much.....
I'll open it up in a few days and check everything. Maybe there's a pin pushed back in one of the connectors. I'm an aircraft mechanic in my spare time. It wouldn't be the first time it was something simple like that...
I'll keep you updated, thanks for your responses...
Bob
