I replaced my lamp several months ago as per your website instruction and it corrected my problem, thank you. Now my Sony KDF-60XS955 will turn on without any issues on some occasions. Yesterday when I turned it on the tv went thru it's normal start up sequence of the green light blinking but then it switched to a red steady blinking light without any pauses. I then pressed the power button and it switched back to the green blinking light but still no picture or sound. I went thru this for over five minutes before getting upset and walking away from the television. Then five minutes later I tried again and the tv turned on just fine, I got blinking green followed by the picture ans sound coming on as normal. Today it happend again and I followed the same steps pretty funny and the tv eventually came on as it did yesterday. My question is could it be the Thermal Fuse or the Power Supply Block? any help would be appreciated. By the way I am now a Member and I requested a Manual on my tv so it would aide me in replacing what ever part you tell me is creating the problem. BTW- This is a PHENOMENAL website thank you for all the helpful information. Mike350z

Hi Mike350z.
I just sent the service manual to you. Sorry about the delay. I don't think it's the thermal fuse. Do you get 6 blinking red lights. I think it might be the lamp driver. It seems like it's power cycling. I would search for power cycling. I would also check out the following link which has information on power cycling in one of the rows. Also, search the forum for power cycling or lamp driver. Sometimes the lamp driver goes bad especially when a new lamp in the equation

Forgot to add this
I would do a self diagnostic test which can be found in the Frequently Asked questions sections. Post back if there were any "1" that came back.

Claudio, Thank you for replying over the weekend. I get a steady red blinking light, there are no pauses like when I had a bad bulb. Thank you for sending me a copy of the service manual. Is the service manual helpful when it comes to replacing a part? Also, I will look for the section you recommended with regards to performing a self diagnostic test. You mentioned that I should let you know if any "1" appear in the self diagnostics, is that correct?

No problem. Glad to help. Yes, I would do the self diagnostic test. The instructions are in the service manual as well and it shows what will appear. If there is a "1", let me know and if so next to what error.

Claudio, I ran the test you suggested and i received the following errors back: Lamp ERR = 1 Lamp Driver = 1 Looks like I have some repair work ahead of me. What do I have to replace in order to correct these two errors? Thank you in advanced for all the help. Regards, mike350z

I would reset the self diagnostic and rerun it. Not sure why you have a lamp error as well. Sometimes reseting clears the old errors out. For the lamp driver, I would search on Lamp driver but that can be replaced. This is a good forum thread on lamp driver.

hi mike, i agree with claudio and it seems that it could be the ballast driver the reason why your tv does not turn on, recommend for you to check on this.
Good luck!

Claudio & Zeppman,
Thank you both on the recommendations. I rested the diagnostic screen and believe it or not the TV is now turning on just fine. I will continue to monitor this issue, if it starts acting up again I will replace the Power Supply Block.
Thx,
mike350z

If you have never replaced the lamp, I would replace it first. You should see a noticeable increase in brightness. While replacing the lamp driver MIGHT stop the problem, so MIGHT replacing the lamp. The lamp and lamp driver work together. As the lamp ages, it takes more and more high voltage to start-up. Eventually, the high voltage limit of the lamp driver is reached.

Jehill,
I have replaced the lamp. This was done about two months ago. At this point the TV is working fine after I cleared out the self diagnostic screen of the errors. As mentioned if it acts up again, then I will replace the Power Supply Block.
Thx,
mike350z

interesting that it fixed itself after clearing the self diagnostic screen. Not sure why, but could recommend the same steps for other members.

Claudio,
I thought the same thing, how could reseting the diagnostic screen correct the problem. I compare it to a computer when it has a virus. It will run but depending on the virus it could either slow down it down, crash it or cause it to act erratic. Since the error was never cleared out after replacing the bulb two months ago, I wonder if the system thought that there was still a problem. I think this could be a good explanation or I hope. As of right now the TV is working great.
Thank you for all your help Claudio.
