I picked up a KDL-40W4100, and it needs help. It has vertical lines spaced about .5" apart when first turned on that will disapear when warm. After the lines go away, the picture is not too bad but has some very noticeable patching effect on faces. The latter looks like a very low number or shades of colors (fleshtones).
The vertical lines in the picture (when cool) can be made to come and go by heating the heatsink on the display logic board with a hairdrier, or return by cooling with a fan. No intermitents have been seen by moving or bumping the set ( small hammer ).
My experiance with lcd has been limited to computer monitors.
Is there a service mode for this set? Can someone send me the service manual?
