    Hi all,

last night my KF50we610 refuesed to power up. You turn on the pwer and the green power light comes on and then turns red and blinks 5 times. no picture.

does anyone know what this means and what board needs to be replaced.

    thanks.

    soko7777,

Five blinks indicates a problem with the video circuit. Have you tried rebooting the TV by unplugging the power cord for several minutes and then retrying it? Looking for the simple fix until one of the techs here can suggest if there might be a problem with the C or the A board.

    soko7777-
Welcome to Agoraquest!  You may need the assistance of an authorized Sony servicenter.  Tell them the symptoms and they should come prepared to change either the lamp or lamp driver.

    Joe,

You are forgetting that the KF50WE610 is a rear projection LCD set.  Five blinks means, "Lamp driver error".  The probable cause is a faulty lamp driver (power block).  It could also be that the antenna wire that detects the lamp driver high voltage output has changed its position and that the real problem is a defective lamp.

    hi ,

Thanks for all the onfo, it helps alot.

I had also had a TV tech come in and he quoted me $900 to repair it. ouch.

I was hoping to replace the power block myself, do you know what the part number might be? and is this some thing I could do?

    thanks

If it would save me $900, I would sure give it a try!  You may purchase the following here for the prices indicated.  Just search for the Part or Accessory Number identified.

    Part No.        Description                                Price (USD)
    996537703    SM KF42WE610/50/60 03 US CAN   $12.74
146879811    LAMP POWER SUPPLY BLOCK         $116.25

Send me (jehill) your e-mail address via your Agoraquest Inbox (bottom of left column) and I will send you a copy of the training manual.  It has great color pictures in it.

    Jehill,

the part came today and I installed it ( 30 mns) and it fired up again and all is well.

can't believe the service tech quoted me $700 for a $125 part.

Thanks for your support and advise.

    sincerely

    jehill,

What is the first part you list? 996537703 SM KF42WE610/50/60

And the second one is just the power block and not the lamp correct?

I have had my 50/610 for two years now and I just blew my second lamp this year. The original lamp had almost 8k hrs before it blew the second had about 3k.

I read some of the post that were related to this problem on other threads and one post said that the power block was bad on units with a certain S/N. I checked mine and I have the bad S/N.

Would it be worth it to buy the new PS block and replace it?

The first part is the service manual and the second  part is the power block.  I wouldn't replace the power block until it fails.  I see that the current part number is 146879815 (current replacement for 46879811).

    jehill,

I see that the part number for the lamp driver has changed again, now to 146879816.  Any idea why Sony keeps discontinuing and changing this part?

It could be as simple as a change in subcontractor.  There really is no way that we can tell.

I just had this same exact issue on my 50we610.

The set is not even 2 years old. Is this a common problem, or am I just having my ususal run of bad luck?

Thanks for the info in the posts above, I have ordered the manual and parts and am hopin this will fix it.

    Thanks again!

    Doghart,

Do you know if the serial number of your set falls within the range of problem sets that supposedly had faulty lamps/lamp drivers?

No, I didn't realise there was a batch of sets with issues.

The fan driver arrived today and it took me about an hour to replace it.

    Set is now working great.

    Thanks so much guys!
