| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | Funny noise from my htr receiver | Could it be the relays that you normally hear click shortly after the unit powers up? Are there any other symptoms (like the Unlock message being displayed)? |
| Other (Tape, Short W... | RM-AV3000 problem | I've had a lot of problems like this with a variety of remotes. Open the case and separate the circuit board from the "rubber" button array. Clean both the button contacts and the places on the circuit board where the buttons touch. Use alcohol and dry completely. This should get it working again. |
| DVD | Cable | Since this is just a speaker cable, you can solder those wires without any adverse effect. Just make sure you insulate them so they won't short out. Put some heatshrink tubing on the wires before you solder them. Then slide the tubing over the joint and shrink it with heat. |
| DVD | My NS700P has stopped playing audio, video ok | As a sanity check, go through the menus in both the player and the receiver to make sure someone didn't change a setting. Then verify that the connecting cable is OK. Try a replacement if you can. Also try the other connection method (if you use Toslink, try coax). |
| Television Configura... | kv-32hs510 black outlines | Sorry my suggestion didn't help. As far as multiple posts are concerned, all new posts appear on the home page first for members to see. I doubt there are members who will read the TV Configuration forum and not the TV Trouble forum. Usually, the first post to be responded to will get all of the posts while the duplicates will be ignored. Multiple posts of the same question just clutters up the forums. |
| Television Configura... | kv-32hs510 black outlines | Check the setting for Scan Velocity Modulation (or whatever your model calls it). This feature enhances edges to the point of distraction. Turn this feature off and see if the image improves. Also note that it isn't necessary to post the same question in two forums. [ This message was edited by: paulaceto on 2004-04-13 05:38 ] |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | STRDE495/595/695 Basic Questions | Ray, the first part of your answer may be a little confusing. See if you agree with me. THD is Total Harmonic Distortion. It's a measure of the harmonics generated by the non-linearity of the amp. The marketing ploy used by the manufacturers is to rate the power output for a given THD. They can rate the amp at a higher output if they allow more THD. Agree? |
| DVD | DAV-C770 ssskkkiipppppiiinnngggggg problem | Before you give up on it, try calibrating it. Look in Agoraquest's download section for the DVD calibration procedure. Its worth a shot before you buy a new one. |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | After Market Power Leads | I downloaded that brochure yesterday and I didn't find any screen shots in it. There was a lot of marketing and a discussion of power systems in general but no measurements. |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | After Market Power Leads | Thanks for the comment. It's interesting that you only see this with digital. I look forward to hearing more from your studio manager. As far as the RF choke on the power cable is concerned: These are usually added to prevent digital noise from getting out of, not into the equipment. When we go to the shack for FCC testing, we usually bring along an assortment of clamp-on RF chokes just for this purpose. There is a requirement that equipment cannot put crap out on the AC line. BTW, I just added another paragraph to that paper discussing differential vs common-mode pic .. |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | After Market Power Leads | Jimmybotoo, I looked all over the Russ Andrews site and the Kimber Cable site but I didn't find the screen captures you mentioned. Can you post a link? |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | Power PA4000 off of switched DA4ES?? | If by PA4000 you mean a Harman Kardon power amp, no. This would draw too much current from the switched outlet on the back of your receiver. This outlet is only meant to drive low power stuff (like a DVD player or a turntable). |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | After Market Power Leads | Nutsnbolts, I've been waiting for an opportunity to discuss this issue with a technical person. First, did you read my white paper on power cables? That will give you a basis for my position. As for measurements, I'd like to see an audio spectrum analyzer's output of an amp for a test tone while using a series of different power cables. Then try two tones to check for intermodulation distortion. If you can hear a difference, it should show up in the different spectra. That would go a long way toward convincing me that the effect exists. You say that the effect is .. |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | After Market Power Leads | While I can't argue with your comment, I'd like to see a measured difference in cables. Hearing a difference between two cables separated in time (the time it takes to swap the cables) is a difficult thing to do. It's easy to convince yourself that you hear a difference. Just looking at the circuitry that is between the AC line and the audio section of any equipment (let alone high performance studio stuff) shouts to me that it can't make a difference. I really wish a studio engineer would just do the measurements and put this issue to sleep. |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | After Market Power Leads | Nutsnbolts, All electronics that is sold today must pass several FCC/IEC tests that insure that the equipment will not be affected by RFI or generate RFI. These tests are quite severe. I have taken many of my designs to the "shack" for this type of testing so I very familiar with them. There is no need to modify anything you have purchased commercially. If you want to learn more, scroll up a few posts and find the link to my paper on power cables. |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | After Market Power Leads | I never said there was a problem; just that it voids your warranty. |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | After Market Power Leads | Also note that use of an after market power cord will void your surge supressor warranty. |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | After Market Power Leads | Try THIS . |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | After Market Power Leads | There are two schools of thought on this issue. I am of the belief that it doesn't make a difference. If you want to read my argument, click on the WWW button below and download the paper on power cables. [ This message was edited by: paulaceto on 2004-04-05 09:50 ] |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | STR-DA1000ES Internal Parts | You'll have to open the unit and locate the part on the circuit board. If the 8 pins go through holes in the board, you want the DIP version. If the 8 leads stick out and lie flat on the board, you want the surface-mount SOIC package. [ This message was edited by: paulaceto on 2004-03-30 14:17 ] |
