| MD/CD/SACD | Odd behaivor from the XA-5400 | On 2010-03-07 03:01, msilverz wrote: On 2009-11-12 21:05, redwing-nine wrote: After additional verification, confirmed that the behavior described above is consistent. For analog out, make sure no HDMI cable is connected, and digital out is off. For HDMI. make sure the 6400 does not see the TV on HDMI out. As long as one adheres to this, the XA5400 works great. Redwing, are you sure the HDMI cable has to be disconnected even if Digital Out is set to Off? I'm asking because I'm considering purchasing the XA5400, and I'd like to use the analog outs for stereo CDs .. |
| MD/CD/SACD | Sony CD Changer - Power Toggle via Remote Control | On 2009-07-11 21:13, msilverz wrote: Hello! I've just added a lovely Sony SCD-C2000ES SACD changer to my system. It's working beautifully, except for one thing: it doesn't appear to have a standby mode from which it can be turned on by remote control. (There is no "Power" button on the remote.) Is there any way for me to set it up so that I can turn it on or off via remote control (I use a Harmony One universal remote)? Thanks! | Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | Using 12V trigger With Emotiva XPA-5 5ch Amp | Ok, I'm not sure if this is the issue but I had the exact same problem with my older STRDA4300ES turning on my Emotiva LPA-1. I found the solution with the AV command mode. I dont remember how to switch this but it will be in your manual. I dont have the receiver anymore so dont have the manual. I switched to AV2 and it worked fine. Don't ask me why it fixed it but it did. I think I had to hold a front button down.....like 2 Channel or something and then turn on the power. Good luck. Have you ever thought that the reason they do not demo the SONY CD players is because the SONY's are fairly priced and high quality and they might and will embarass their mega bucks so called esoterics? Great player. I did some listening this weekend and am extremely satisfied with the sound. Good luck MNSACD |
| MD/CD/SACD | SCD-XA5400ES | I'm not sure but it must have been PCM. The sound differnece is very noticible. Looking forward to doing more listening this weekend. Thanks. MNSACD |

Well......ok. I am not sure what the player is doing then. I had my old Yamaha SACD player hooked up to this receiver via HDMI and it did not sound like this at all! MNSACD |
| MD/CD/SACD | SCD-XA5400ES | Greetings, I listened about an hour last night and all I can say is WOW. This is my third SACD player, (first was Sony DVD DVP85NS,second Yamaha C-961) and it really is amazing the level of detail and warm sound it presents. I am using it with Multi-channel HDMI out to a new Yamaha RX-V3900. I listened to Depeche Mode's "Violator" and was simply astounded at all the sounds I was hearing that I missed with the other players. I am eager to do more listening and have the player properly broken in. Highly recommended! MNSACD |

If it's one that can decode DSD (such as the Pioneer VSX-94TXH), can you try to use HDMI out to see if you can use a non-Sony, non-HATS receiver to get pure DSD? Hello, I just picked up this player yesterday and tested it out with my new Yamaha RX-V3900 with HDMI Multi-Channel. With the receiver set to auto decode it shows DSD Direct or something like that on the front and a smaller DSD sign in the left of the display. So without HATS you do get DSD. I did .. |

I'm a bit conscious of swamping this thread, so I held back from replying. I think ARC / HATS / PQLS / i-link are well worth having, though I haven't been in the position of trying to equate the benefit to a budget. I've simply owned and used a couple of players and amps that have i-link, and found it very worthwhile having. I would expect the HDMI implementation to be very good as well. As to whether its .. |

There may be many amplifiers that are HDMI 1.3a "compliant" but this is not very meaningful. All the incremental features of each HDMI version are optional, not compulsory, which almost completely undermines the value of the spec. What HDMI say is that you ha .. |

| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | H.A.T.S vs. DSD Decoding | Hello, I am wondering what benefit H.A.T.S will have in the 6400ES as opposed to the lower end models, such as the 4400ES. If I connect the new XA5400ES SACD player via HDMI will there be a huge difference with H.A.T.S? I think I read somewhere that the HDMI spec now contains similar functionality. THanks! MNSACD |

| Television Configura... | Calibration DVD | Greetings, Just a quick question here. I have a new Sony 55" SXRD rear projection tv and I'm wondering if I can use my old calibration DVD's from Avia and or Digital Video Essentials on this TV? They are standard DVD's and if I remember right most of the test patterns etc ere for CRT based TV's. So I am just wondering if the basic color, sharpness, contrast settings etc can be set on a newer HDTV. Thanks! MNSACD |
