| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | Sony STR-DA5ES For Sale | Hello: I recently acquired this very nice 5ES from its original owner thinking I would use but have decided not to. I will put it up for acution oneBay but I know there is a following on Agoraquest so I felt I should see if anyone here was interested. I have used it briefly and all seems to be OK. I'm not sure what it's worth but think $200 plus shipping would be a fair price. Anyone interested can email me at RPOL849775@aol.com Regards |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | Sony APM X300 Speakers | Hi Maxx: Funny APM's should be a topic. I just checked our local Craigslist and a pair fo nice looking AMP 690's are for sale for $40. At that price I probably should buy them but the owner is quite a distance away. Regards, Richard |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | Sony APM X300 Speakers | Hi Maxx: How are you? I am very satisfied with my 9100ES/7100ES combo so don't have much desire to investigate making changes. We are very busy, do some traveling, just got back from a Mediterranean cruise, so life's good all the way around. This is not my post but is from BlienoseBlonde. I don't think the APM X300 sells for very much. How good they are I can't say. I am very faithful to my Acoustic Research AR9's Regards, Richard |

| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | Does Sony Still Make A Great Receiver? | Dear Abyssblue: As far as I am concerned my DA7100ES/DVP9100ES iLinked combo driving my vintage 4 ohm AR 9 speakers outperforms my prior system which had Adcom pre and power amps with MIT interconnects. I listen to music only in stereo and am so satisfied I have no desire to experiment with other equipment. So, yes Sony does make great receivers. Regards, Richard |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | DVP N9100ES vs SCD XA9000ES | Hello: I posted this thinking it would be on this forum but it ended up on the DVD forum so I'm reposting here. Hello: I have a chance to buy a SCD XA9000ES player and wonder how much better it might be than my DVP NS9100ES when using the iLink connection to my STR DA7100ES to listen to SACD. Anyone. Regards, Richard |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | STR-DA7100ES | I-c-e-m -a-n: I followed these instruction and the display did not change. Comment? Thanks, Richard |

| Television Installat... | TV Timer | Hi jehill: Thanks for the comment. I can't get an exact answer to how much Standby power my TV draws. The concensus was about 100 watts. Hence the inquiry. Richard |
| Television Installat... | TV Timer | Hello: We only watch TV in the evening so in an attempt to be more engery consious I want to plug my TV into a Timer which will turn it on and off. Anyone doing this? Can I just go to some place like Home Depot and buy a heavy duty timer and use it or is something special needed? Thanks, Richard |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | STR-DA7100ES | Toli: Thanks again. Richard |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | STR-DA7100ES | Toli: Thank you. I'm going to call Sony. Richard |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | STR-DA7100ES | Hello: When I bought my 7100ES it was with the intent of using it only to listen to music. That's what I have done. I never connected it to my projector. However, as I read about some of the problems with the 7100Es I wonder if I should upgrade the firmware. If I wait too long will there come a time when Sony says it's so old that it can't be updated. (So old might only be 4-5 years?) Also, without doing a thorough investigation is there a way I can tell, by the serial number, for ex. that the unit does or does not need a firmware update? Any comments are most app .. |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | STR-DE585 | Hi: Sounds like a problem with the volume control. Anyone know the particulars of the volume control design. Richard |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | Congrats To Maxx | Maxx: Your unselfish attitude toward helping others is something we could all emulate. My system would not be anywhere near as good as it is without your generous help. Best regards, Richard |
| Do It Yourself Home ... | Speaker Sensitivity and Sound Quality. | Hi Maxx: Very interesting. This certainly is a complicated subject. I'm a firm believer in the KISS principle but everything is a compromise. The designers of 2 and 3 way speakers must have been unable to design just one speaker that would cover the entire dynamic range. So complication arise. With restect to the 1 watt is best idea I went and listened to my AR's, 87db/w/m, with the volume set where It normally is, about 26 on my 7100ES, and using my SPL meter I was getting an avg. of about 65 db with peaks to about 70. Using the Crown power calculater .. |
| Do It Yourself Home ... | Speaker Sensitivity and Sound Quality. | Hello: I've been experimenting with adding two L/R speakers to my home theater to make it a 9.1 system from a 7.1 system. I notice, because the sensitivity of the two added speakers is not the same as the original L/R speakers, that the volume from the two added speakers was lower that the original L/R speakers. This makes me wonder about the significance of speaker sensitivity on sound quality. I like to listen to music in stereo and my vintage AR speakers have a sensitivity of 87 db/w/m. So, the question is: Other thjings being equal do speakers with high sensitivit .. |
| Blu-Ray/HD DVD | Blu Ray Firmware | Hello: While I don't have a Sony Blu Ray player I thought these comments might prove useful. I use Netflix and have had trouble getting the movie Hancock to play. I called Netflix and their rep said the problem may be due to the latest Blu Ray discs having copy protection which my player did not decode. He suggested I update the player with the latest firmware revision. I downloaded the latest revision, installed it and that solved the problem. If you are having similar problems an update may solve them. Richard |
