| Television Configura... | XBR Gaming: does it need to hurt? | No that is not the case. The different video modes do in fact have settings in the service menu that are not accessable through the user menu. They also have different values for the same setting. What I mean is 50% brightness in pro does not equal 50 percent brightness in vivid. There is an "offset" in the service menu. At one time I had modified all 4 of my modes to match the pro mode, then adjust from there. I was able to get one mode for my two dvd players, one mode for the ps2 and one mode for when the sun was shining on the TV. |
| Television Configura... | Did anyone figure out 540p full while I was gone? | If you dont remember, I found a way to get 540 sources into full screen mode. The problem was that you could not exit service mode and there was no way to save it. Did anyone ever figure this one out? |

| Other (Tape, Short W... | HTPC - DVD Decoder Cards??? | No point. Just get a faster cpu, that way you can also run dscaler and output higher resolutions. Have you ever seen dvd at 1080i with descaler? Its very nice. You also shouldnt need any special video card, just one that supports custom resolutions. If you are serious id say check out avscience htpc forums. Personally I believe a vga to component adapter is the only way to go. I can get very high quality 480p and 1080i over component this way. I picked up a nice one from ebay for 40$ |
| Television Misc and ... | XBR700 speakers as a Centre channel ?? | Its not worth it. They will never match in both timber and volume levels. Plus your real speakers will be able to drive at FAR higher volume levels. Really if you dont want to buy an extra center Id suggest positioning your left and right correctly and setting the center to no. With the correct angle and distance a very convincing sound stage can be obtained. |
| Television Misc and ... | XBR & PS2 | Well your friend is just retelling some misinformation that he heard on the net. And rgb cable and a component connection really should be equal. One uses three channels for the color and luma combined (rgb) One uses three channels, one dedicated to luma and two that are combined to create three colors. Just to show you how similar these are, you can easily find a rgb to component adapter of HIGH quality for 120 dollars. Decent low end models for 40. These are very small devices, with little components inside. Either way even if the RGB was better, .. |
| Television Troublesh... | Wega High Pitch Whine | First thing I would do if you arent afraid to take it apart is to touch a solid object to the transformer to see if the whine stops. Like a wooden spoon if you are worried. Id say there is a 99% chance its the transformer. Does it do it all the time, or when warm, or just sometimes, or only when there is a bright image? |
| Television Misc and ... | XBR & PS2 | It could be that you are realizing just how much the ps2 really sucks. My set is adjusted very well and I also noticed more detail in the ps2 games. More detail as in the tv is performing any type of smoothing for the image. Some games look good while others are pretty big on the staircase edges. Surprisngly I see FAR less jaggies on my Dreamcast. Just goes to show the best system doesnt always win. |

| Television Troublesh... | Vertical convergence. | No, those are only the dynamic touch up and they effect horizontal convergence. In order to really adjust convergence including vertical the set has to be taken apart. I know how to do it and would like to try on my set but I cant find anyone who knows the proper method of removing the "white out" from the controls. |

Id suggest just reformatting the computer and sticking a plain install of 2000/xp and forget the sony stuff. What special software do they provide you cannot get a from a third party? |
| General Questions | Message buttons missing on edit | When posting a message you can press the buttoms at the bottom like url email image bold etc. When editing the post these are not available! Makes it hard to add an address if you can remember the scripting. |

| Television Misc and ... | DVI inputs and current XBR. | I think it will be a while before you even see a couple of devices in a decent price range using the dvi. As of now there are plenty of fairly inexpensive devices passing 1080i over anlog connections, and the quality is great. How often do you upgrade your set? I dont think Ive ever kept a display more than 4 years, and Id say it will take that long for the market to really stabilize (if it does). |

If I remember right you have a max of 20. The other service I was referring to is data that is encoded with the image information. It can provide station name, show name, running time, time remaining etc.. |
| Television Misc and ... | VIDEO1 input quirks on 36XBR450 | I have never tried disabling video 1 but I know that if you select skip on the other sources it does pass them by. Id say that if you are getting bleed over just have the set repaired. |
