Amp/Receiver/Speaker...Keeping My DA5ES but I Have some Questions ???Ray~ The one that should be able to help you with Blu Ray is Maverick...He uses a receiver similar to ours (Aussie version) connected thru analog connections for the same purpose... Remember...When you connect thru analog...None of the settings I gave you will be in effect...You will need to rely on the BR player for those...But I also understand they are not needed when it's done that way... I don't have a BD player so I can't comment...JTTAR may also be a great source of info since he uses a DA7 (very similar to the DA5) with BR... Steve~ ----------------- Spcoolin's Web Site: ..
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...Low Volume Level on STR-DA2100ESYour STR DA2100ES Is a POS...The DA4 is NOT....Is that a good enough answer, or what you wanted to read ? Look...I love Sony stuff as much as anyone...The 2100 was not noted as one of the best ES units...Likely should have been labeled as a "DE" unit which I'm sure is what you are coming from...Yours was a "DE" 835 or maybe "D" not a "DA" 835...They never made a DA835 to my knowledge... DA has traditionally been reserved for "ES" units... Look inside both units...The DA & DE...See which looks beefier...If they look similar & weigh near the same then the 2100 is not really "ES" cla ..
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...Low Volume Level on STR-DA2100ESI also just re-read your first post... If you are only going to use the front two speakers... You need to go into the setup menu and tell the receiver it does not have the others by selecting "No" for Center, Surround, and Surround Back...If you have No Subwoofer, select No for that as well. This way...No matter what sound field you are in...All the sound will be routed to the front speaker outputs....No sounds are lost to speaker outputs with speakers not there. Amp/Receiver/Speaker...Low Volume Level on STR-DA2100ESAlso... You may have to ask Jehill to look in the service manual to see if that switch in your model is a Series or Parallel connection, but A+B speakers is most times not a good idea today... It can double the load on the front two amp channels and do damage if not used in moderation. I see no mention of 4ohm output ratings in your owners manual specs for that receiver, which usually means it can not handle 4ohm loads very well...If at all. If the switch is wired as I think...Two 8ohm speakers (one on A & one on B output) would present a 4ohm load to the amp and make it work twice a ..
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...Low Volume Level on STR-DA2100ESFirst we should establish what you feel is loud...The only real way to do that is with a SPL meter... Do you have one ?...If not, they are very reasonable a Radio Shack and can be a valuable tool in setting up a HT properly... Next question is if you have calibrated levels as it states starting on page 21 of your manual ?...Likely not well enough if you don't have a meter, but you can at first do it by ear. Below is a link to a SPL calculator and definitions of how loud is loud. http://myhometheater.homestead.com/splcalculator.html    Play with all your figures in the ca ..
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...PowerAmp and Cd PlayerIn Layman's terms ? The Attenuator is basically a Volume control to lower the signal into the amp (Players put out full signal like Wide Open or to the Floor) Without one the combo would play Full Blast all the time. The TA N55ES that dontsleep mentions has one built in and it's accessible from the face plate. If you need remote control of the combo...That can be a different story since whatever has the Attenuator will need to also be remote control capable...The TA N55ES is not. Steve~
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...DA5ES lost rear channel and right side on analog On 2009-10-25 13:07, T-Bone wrote: Where is this setting? My knob jus says "Off" "Main" "Main+3rd Room".  I don't see a setting for the B speakers at all Just make sure it is set to Main... Other than that, it must have some internal problem that will require a qualified tech. Steve~ [addsig]
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...DA5ES lost rear channel and right side on analogMake sure the speaker selector switch didn't accidently get changed to A+B speakers... Steve~
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...looking for an STR-DA5ESMaybe I'm missing something here but... My thought is that any company with buying power such as Sony could get most any manufacturer to label a product as wanted... Similar to a Kenmore (Sears) branded Whirlpool etc... Sony liked the Caps enough in the DB930 to start using them in ES models but wanted the Sony name on them as well as Nichicon...Or Nichicon didn't want to give up all/some of the credit. There are also many purpose built products for OEM's that are not available thru standard sources...I can name a few A/C compressors that are built by brand name manufacturers but only ..
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...Keeping My DA5ES but I Have some Questions ???Hi Ray~ Sorry to take so long... You could setup in different ways but I might first try this since by specs it looks that you have a capable subwoofer. Front Mains: Small @ 40Hz Center: Small @ 70Hz Surrounds: Small @ 60Hz Sub: Set it's variable crossover to max (highest setting) LFE High Cut in DA5 @ 70Hz Second way I might try...Is setting the Mains @ Large (since they are rated down to 24Hz) and the others as I listed. The reason I say second way, is that we rarely see a speaker rated that low actually do it cleanly or with much authority...That's what a good sub is built/designed t ..
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...Sony STR-DB940QS...very low Front loudspeakers souWelcome Merrill~ How are you connecting the Acoustimas 5 setup to the Sony ? Last I knew...The Bose system is not using the receiver features per say... It is generally connected to the reciever thru the speaker connections of the receiver but they first go to the Bose bass module and from there out to the speakers... The problem may not be in the Sony at all...But in how it is connected, or in the Bose module itself.... With the Bose system you will not have the benefit of any of the Sony's higher end features because everything is altered in the bose module before reaching the cube ..

Amp/Receiver/Speaker...looking for an STR-DA5ESThanks for the kind words Maxx...Interesting find on the output caps in the DA5... I'll have to open up one of mine to see when I get time, but right now that may not happen for awhile...I'm back down to 2 DA5's now and the DA3 is gone too...I really only need two anyway. Between trying to take care of my elderly mother who is steadily going downhill, trying to build my website by posting on other boat related forums, and trying to keep the wolf away from the door in this economy... I just don't seem to have much time or the inclination to go onto another site, or even play with my system. ..
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...Sony STR-DA5ES.......Should I upgrade?Glad it helped...You can experiment 10Hz or so from those settings to maybe get a little better...I have found that the bass management will have much better results than using the EQ...However if you do want EQ I have found it best to use the ones in each sound field (at the end of the surround menu when in any given soundfield) over the five preset EQ's that I disable...This way you are not adding EQ on top of EQ and each sound field can have it's own EQ settings for differing material... I mostly use the Sony Cinema Studio EX A, B & C modes with PLII movie enabled... ..
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...Sony STR-DA5ES.......Should I upgrade?Ironduke...Welcome ~ Wow...I was just checking in and noticed your reply...I have been busy trying to start/promote my own site & forum so most days after spending my time on many other sites I really just want to get away from the computer...I do still scan here quickly now & then though... Yes I still run both of my DA5's...Still have no plans of change either...They really do work for me as well as I want/need... As far as your question...If you have read thru this thread you already have a good basis... I can offer that there really are not many "full range" speakers out th ..

I will continue to use different settings to see if I can bring about "better sounds". Do you recommend leaving the LFE MiX to 0dB? thanks again, Kavvy Yes that is where I typically leave mine but you can utilize it if your sub stumbles on some LFE heavy material.... My belief is it is there for the folks that tend to overdrive a small sub in a big room...or that if they like bass heavy music and have set the sub level for that, but when you throw a DVD with a lot of ..
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...DA 7ES setup issues... need guidance.Hi Kavvy & Welcome~ Looks like you have a pretty good handle on this and have done your research well... You are the only one that can hear the results of your tinkering, so anything we might add here will only be speculation... I will agree that LFE high cut should be set lower than 200Hz in your system & I believe the reason you are reading 80Hz everywhere is that is THX spec...Dolby's spec is 120Hz and that is what Sony is going by, and also why they label it as STD... If using the settings (LFE Hi Cut) in the Sony for digital sources...Yes set the sub as high as it allows.. ..
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...Hooking up outdoor speakersHi Amber & Welcome to Agoraquest~ I'm afraid what you are asking is not an Easy option with that Sony surround system...I just looked at the manual myself, and like most HTIB's (home theater in a box) systems...Everything is Proprietary...Including the speaker connectors... It also does not offer a "B" speaker switch or connections for extra speaker connection. HTIB's are designed for a certain price point, and for the features that they advertise Only. If you want to utilise your outdoor speakers as you have in the past I'm afraid you will either need to purchase a more traditiona ..
