| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | The AC Plug Thread / The Benefits of Upgrading to | It was 3 years, 21 pages and over 46,000 views ago that this 'Little Plug That Could' Thread got started and I am very glad to say that I am still getting enhanced and dependable use out of the Leviton 8215-C Hospital Grade AC Plugs that I installed in my A/V System and that they still only cost $7 each! What started out as a very affordable experiment has become and remained the workhorse of my Power Delivery System powering more pieces of equipment than any other kind of AC Plug that I use. I feel that I have gotten the modest investment that I made in these Leviton 8215-C H .. |

| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | How many folks are still happy with there STR-DB93 | Gary- I would suggest that you first review the pictures of the DB930 posted on this page and then locate a more modern AV Receiver with that same excellent level of build quality along with HDMI capability and check out its pricepoint which will be well up into the four figure price range before you make your final decision. In the end what the quality of the Audio you listen to is directly related to the build quality of the equipment that use. I know that Oppo is famous for building top quality players and with their excellent upgraded Analog Output stage and some premium quality interconn .. |

On the DB930 the stereo Analog inputs lead directly to the Preamp section where they are A/D converted so that the Digital functions in the Preamp section can be applied. Signals sent through the Multichannel inputs remain pure as they bypass the Digital Preamp and only pass through the DB930's high quality ALPS volume attenuator... I have heard a profound improvement in sound quality when listening to a high quality Digital front end using the Multichannel 'Analog Bypass' inputs on the DB930 as opposed to the A/D-D/A compromised sound of the St .. |

I can understand why they didn't appreciate the TA N1 at the school though in that after hearing the SCD-1, TA E-1, TA N-1 and SS M9ED set up in its own dedicated custom designed and acoustically tuned listening room for over a year the owner of the Sony Only Store decided to put a TV projector setup in the room instead and the TA N-1 was relegated to running the Stereo speaker pairs in the overcrowded speaker demonstration room along with a seriously compromised Digital front end and Preamp and its sound quality went from spectacular to mundane. I think that you would be happy with the sound of the Sony XDR-F1HD radio if nothing more than because it would cost a comparatively small fortune to exceed its sound quality with a classic Hi End Analog FM Tuner because they are so highly prized by their owners for their sound quality which with a live broadcast sounds better than uncompressed CD which mere codecs of the original cannot compare on an Audio System as revealing as yours is. I would suggest that you look into RickeyM's suggestion of using a higher quality passive preamp which will give you much better sound quality. ~Maxx~ [addsig] |

"I have just become aware of the new Sony XA5400ES CD/SACD player with 2CH RCA and XLR balanced outputs and multi-channel SACD outs via HDMI. I am wondering if there is any interest in this unit as far as mods go? I have some ideas in mind, including an external tube power supply (not enough room inside unit) and a newer and more advanced yet, possibly fully differential tube analog stage. I would expect mod price would be in the $2500-$3K range and would include the same power supply upgrades tha .. |

| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | PowerAmp and Cd Player | jj38fox- Just for safety's sake as I said if the player has a line level output greater than the Power Amp's input sensitivity which is the input level that will drive it to full volume it will go far beyond full blast and in layman's terms it will completely fry the Power Amp. RickyM's suggestion of a passive preamp is a good one although in my personal experience even with very well built ones with pure silver wiring and an excellent volume control they robbed the Music of vitality and dynamics. Basically what we are trying to say is that you will need a volume control somewhere within th .. |
