Last night I noticed that it was blinking repeatedly but only 4 blinks. I pushed the main power button off and after a minute I pressed it again to see what blink patterns I get. To my surprise the TV turned on and stayed on for the whole night. I was even able to turn it on this morning. Now I'm really puzzled as to what is going on. Is this a temporary thing? Did it originally die temporarily due to over-heating? Thanks. |
| Television Troubleshooting | KV34HS510 replaced MCZ3001D's...need circuit board help | pfmack62 | 1 | 2009-06-18 23:51 |
| First 650 characters of this post | Basically I have the 6/7 blinks but the TV won't turn on. I replaced the MCZ3001D chips on the D-board but still nothing. I'm checking for resistance from each of the pins on the sockets I installed to be sure my soldering is ok. And that's my question...other than following the trace material on the board is there a schematic or something to tell me where each one goes? And should I have zero resistance to each one? For the most part I do but there's a couple I'm not so sure about. Please read my post at the end of the XBR400 Dead! Help! thread (06-04-2009) for more details of the problems I |

The 18 pin MCZ3001D ICs involved can be found for about $6 each. Replacing them requires some soldering and desoldering. | First 650 characters of this post | Dave, As claudio noted above, a repair through a professional shop could easily cost more than the TV is worth. But, if you're comfortable with soldering, you might be able to repair it yourself by replacing one or more $6 MCZ3001D ICs on the D-Board. I fixed my KV-36XBR400 this way. And many others have repaired their Sony TVs through the replacement of these same ICs. Search this forum for "MCZ3001D" for more details. Or check out the following "XBR400 Dead!" thread: |

| First 650 characters of this post | Some months back I repaired my KV-32XBR400 with help from this forum (thanks BobF) by replacing IC6501 and IC8002 on the D board. (For more info on the see my post on page 14 of the "XBR 400 Dead! Help!" thread.)Since then, TheTV starts right up every time, and looks great. However after it hasbeen running for a while, anywhere from 5 minutes to 5 hours, thepicture "enlarges", i.e. becomes larger than the screen size and also becomes somewhat dim. After a few seconds of this the CRT blanks out, whilethe sound stays on. Turning the TV off |

| First 650 characters of this post | I might just be a coincidence that the picture when out when you attached the cable to the UHF connector.Maybe you still have a marginal connection somewhere. I would disconnect and reconnect all of the wiring connectors that were disconnected during the repair. And maybe there\'s still a problem with the IC that you re-soldered. You night want to resolder that yet again. Clean the area and use solder flux to promote a better connection.Did you install new MCZ3001D ICs in both of the D-Board locations? If so, you might want to resolder the other o |

| First 650 characters of this post | Nice photos! I think other forum members have been able to replace the ICs without removing the D-Board. Some have cut out a segment of the plastic bracing to allow for better access to one of the ICs. Be aware that the entire lower chassis that holds the D-Board and the adjacent A-Board will actually slide out of the bottom of the TV. This is a designed in feature to facilitate servicing. You do have to disconnect a number of connections but reinstalling the chassis is not difficult if you take some time and label the connections. |

Alan,I absolutely love the KV-36XBR400. Th picture is drop dead gorgeous, expecially when viewing high definition channels.I\'ve seen used 36XBR400s in my area going for as little as $300 but $400 is a reasonable price. A lot of times the sellers have upgraded to larger displays (plasma, DLP, LCD) and they just want to unload their old CRTs. |

Far as throwing your tv and dvd player out you probably will when they fail.Although there receivers and pc monitors are one of the few that hold up.I have the STR-D990 and the CPD-E200 and E100 thats still kicking.

For my KV-36XBR400, Sony no longer sells new replacement D-Boards. Instead they have an exchange program where you send in your D-Board and they send you back a repaired board |

| First 650 characters of this post | I have a dead KV36XBR400, that may need the 875967030 IC\'s replaced. The Sony manual for this, references these ic #\'sas ic6501, and ic8002. What leads me to these ic\'s is a previouspost in which someone said if you have a dead xbr400 have thoseic\'s checked. This corresponds to my error codes of 4 blinks, and 7 blinks, being a vstop or hstop fault. Has anybody replaced these ic\'s themselves? Is it a difficult task? Is there another condition that causes the ic\'s to go bad. Any feedback will beappreciated. Thanks, |

If someone could e-mail me the 36xbr400 manual I\'d really appreciate it.I can still get a picture to come up if I turn the set on and off about half a dozen times, but I know it\'s only a matter of time before it dies completely. Is this a common problem? My set is about 6 months out of warranty, but if enough people are having this problem perhaps they will cover it..Thanks! |

| First 650 characters of this post | Do you have sound but no picture? If so, you might have the ever so popular \"XBR400 dead D Board\"! Mine just went last month after having it for just over two years. After reading this forum and seeing other people with the same problem occur after owning the TV for roughly the same amount of time, I b-tched to Sony and they agreed to cover the part (around $400) while I would cover the labor. If you call them, don\'t buy their \"we aren\'t aware of any problem\" answer. The authorized repair guy who came out to look at my TV, called his Sony tech contact, and the guy was like \"sigh, anothe |
