: Sony announces slew of new 3D HDTV with stunning Monolithic design
Posted by

Of particular interest are the four models that make up the LX900 series. These come equipped with Sony’s new “Intelligent People Sensors’. What these clever camera sensors do is to actively adjust the viewing experience based on the viewing environment. The television will identify the location of the viewers and direct the sound out towards the viewer’s location. Furthermore the television’s brightness will be automatically adjusted based on the viewer’s position; if their head is tilted downwards, for example when reading a book or magazine, the screen will dim. When no viewers are detected the television will shut off, a welcome energy saving feature. This new technology has one more trick up its sleeve; the ability to punish naughty children…well almost – when the television detects a child is sitting too close to the screen a message will appear notifying the child they should move backwards to continue watching…when the child is a suitable distance away the message will disappear allowing the child to continue their viewing.

: June Launch for Sony's 3D TVs in Japan
Posted by

on Tuesday, March 09, 2010 @ 22:01:36 CST (75 reads)
Sony has joined the hunt for 3D dollars.
The Japanese electronics conglomerate announced Tuesday that it will launch a line of televisions in Japan in June, with other countries soon to follow.
The cost for early adaptation is steep. Forty-six inch and 40 inch Bravia flatscreen sets will sell $3,875 and $3,200 respectively, $1,000 more than their non-3D equivalent sets. Each TV comes with two pairs of 3D specs. Fifty two inch and 60 inch televisions will hit stores a month later, and will cost nearly double that of the smaller sets.

: Sony's New 3-D TV Warns Kids If They're Too Close
Posted by
claudio
on Tuesday, March 09, 2010 @ 21:04:23 CST (83 reads)
For parents tired of nagging their kids about sitting too close to the television, Sony says its new 3-D television will do it for you.
A camera sensor built into the television’s bottom bezel, just below the Sony logo, detects if a child comes within one meter, or about 40 inches. After a couple of seconds, an alarm is triggered and the screen will go dark, displaying a message telling the child to back away.

: Analyst: PlayStation 3 to win console war in the end
Posted by
claudio
on Tuesday, March 09, 2010 @ 20:56:13 CST (55 reads)
Even though Sony's PlayStation 3 is far behind both the Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 in console sales, analysts at Strategy Analytics contend that when all is said and done, Sony will sell more consoles than its competitors.
In a report titled, "Taming the Waves: Games Console Life Cycles and Platform Competition," analysts from Strategic Analytics said the PlayStation 3 will have a much longer shelf life than current market leader the Nintendo Wii.

: Twitter generates over 1m British Pounds in sales for Sony
Posted by

on Tuesday, March 02, 2010 @ 19:01:08 CST (205 reads)
Sony has generated over £1 million in sales through its Twitter account, it has been reported.
Speaking at Marketing Week´s Social Media for Brand Building event, Nick Sharples, Sony head of corporate communications, said the company sees Twitter as a viable sales platform.
He noted that social media should be used alongside traditional channels.
"The marketing budget is now skewed towards integrated campaigns and includes public relations and social media at the inception of a marketing campaign. Even if we decide to run a big above-the-line campaign or focus on TV, we´ll apply social media amplification," he added.

: Sony restores PlayStation Network service
Posted by
claudio
on Tuesday, March 02, 2010 @ 18:59:58 CST (182 reads)
Sony Corp. said it has restored service to its online PlayStation Network following a system glitch reminiscent of the Y2K bug a decade ago.
Sony Corp. said in a blog post late Monday that the problem was caused by the internal clock function on older PlayStation 3 models. Sony said the clocks mistakenly recognized 2010 as a leap year. Consumers began reporting trouble Sunday, as clocks got confused in switching from Feb. 28 to March 1.
The "slim" versions of the console, which went on sale last fall, were not affected.

: Sony files patent for Ps3 controller with LCD touch screen
Posted by
claudio
on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 @ 01:07:02 CST (332 reads)
According to a patent recently filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Sony is working on a universal game controller that could be used with competitor consoles from Microsoft and Nintendo. The proposed controller would see an LCD touch screen positioned on the front of the controller to replace the controllers face buttons, directional pad and thumb-sticks.
Depending on what type of console has been selected the LCD will display different touch sensitive controls. The device would operate with a receiver unit connected to the console and would be compatible with, “the Playstation made by Sony, a controller made by Nintendo, X-box game controllers made by Microsoft, Atari Jaguar controllers, Gravis Gamepad controllers, Sega controllers, and Turbographics controllers”.
