Sony Cameras: Sony Develops Single-lens 3D Camera

Sony has developed a movie camera capable of shooting 3D images with a single lens and plans to unveil it at next week's Ceatec show in Tokyo.
By utilizing a single lens the camera neatly solves one of the problems associated with current 3D photographic technique: the complicated set-up required for dual lenses. When using a camera with two lenses -- one for the right image and one for the left -- the lenses must be carefully aligned and synchronized so that the resulting images maintain the same degree of 3D perception when see by viewers.

With the Secure Digital (SD) card format, we have a maximum capacity of 2GB. Then they bumped up that capacity by offering us the SDHC format and, in the near future, we’ll be looking at SDXC cards for even more storage. Not to be outdone, Sony is pushing its own memory card format too. You will soon have a Memory Stick with a full two terabytes of space.
Just as the SD people decided to go with SDXC to indicate its extra capacity, Sony has also christened its new format as the Memory Stick XC. Interestingly, the MS-XC actually uses some SDXC technology to go with its exFAT file system. You’ve got to find a way to stuff that much memory into such a smal stick, right?

Sony introduced its DSLR-A700, a new member of its Alpha digital Single Lens Reflex (SLR) camera line. The new camera ships in October for about $1400.
The DSLR-A700 features a 12.2-megapixel CMOS sensor paired to a newly developed auto focus system featuring 11 wide-area sensors. It also sports a 3-inch LCD viewscreen. It sports a maximum shutter speed of 1/8000th of a second and records images in digital raw or JPEG formats.

Adding one more case to the "How'd They Do That?" file, the miniaturization wizards at Sony (known formally as product designers and engineers) took features found on more full-figured digital cameras and squeezed them into a slim, pocket-friendly design no larger than a deck of cards.
Slide the front lens cover down and in just over one second, the Cyber-shot® DSC-T1 digital camera's large 2.5-inch LCD viewfinder comes to life. It occupies roughly two-thirds of the camera's back-surface area, giving more room to see and show off images at the moment they are captured.
Press the shutter release button and the camera demonstrates why it is perhaps the fastest five megapixel camera. Due in large part to Sony's Real Imaging Processor™ circuit, it shoots full-resolution images in one second intervals, and can capture four high-speed burst shots in less than two seconds.
